Order of operation

I am going to talk about Order of Operation. Order of Operation is the order you do a math question in. The order is BEDMAS.

B-brackets
E-exponents
D-divisions
M-multiplication
A-addition
S-subtraction

Eg.

This is a link that will help you with order of operation.
This is a video about order of operation.

Homework:(

1. Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 ÷ 2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.

I don't agree with her because
1.7+6÷2=
\ /
1.7 + 3=
\ /
4.7
2. Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value
possible. What problem solving strategy did you use?

3 x 2.8 + 6.4 ÷ 4 =
3 x (2.8 + 6.4 ÷ 4) =13.2

3. Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression.
2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6 =

Johnny went to the store to buy school supplies. He bought a notebook that cost $2.50, an eraser that cost $1.25, and 5 pencils that cost $1.60 each.

2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6 =
\ /
2.5 + 1.25 + 8=
\ /
3.75 +8=
\ /
11.75

Hey Cindy! Good job on your scribe post. You put everything that we did in class. I liked your link it really helped me understand how to do order of operations more, but I think that should put the steps about BEDMAS. Thanks :D

Hi Cindy, nice scribe-post. The video helped me, how to do the order of operations. I think you should explain the rules of the order of operations, and you forgot to put the homework questions on your scribe-post.

Hi Cindy, I really like you scribe post. However you forgot to put the questions and solutions for the homework questions. I think that you should put the steps to how to use B.E.D.M.A.S. Other than that, I think you did an awesome job! Great work Cindy. I really liked you video.

Hi Cindy, first I would like to say awesome work on you scribe post! I thought that you picked out a really understandable video. But you didn't write the solutions for the three homework questions.
Here are the questions:
1) Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 ÷ 2. She claims the
answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not

2) Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value
possible. What problem solving strategy did you use?

3 × 2.8 + 6.4 ÷ 4

3) Create a problem that could be solved using the following
expression.

2.5 + 1.25 + 5 × 1.
Awesome job Cindy!
