Probability

What we did today (01/28/11)

Question: p(of the product of two dice equaling an odd number.

Solution: Look at the side numbers and the top numbers. Multiply both numbers (e.g. for the first one - 1 x 1 = 1). After Multiplying, look at all the numbers and look for all the odd numbers.

Math notes! Write it down if you never got it or if you we're away.

Probability Questions (01/24/11)

       1) p(heads then tails) when flipping a regular coin. Use a tree diagram to show the sample space. Express the answer as a percent.

         Answer: 1/4, 1:4, or 25%

          2) p(rolling 4 and then 2) with a six sided dice. Express as a ratio. ( You can use a table or a tree diagram)

         Answer: 1/35, 1:36, or 2.7777* %

       3) p( getting red and blue in any order) when spinning the spinner twice.

       Answer: 1/8, 1:8, 12.5 %

       4) Create a tree diagram to show all the possible outcomes when a coin is flipped and a spinner is spun with five equal sections labeled run, skip, jump, twirl, and twist  is spun.

Math notes:
Random is an event which every outcome has an equal chance of occurring.
e.g.
Choosing a random color in a pile of other different colors
or choosing a random shampoo in your washroom. (:
