Chapter 3 review. Numbers 8-10

8. Q: Copy these line segments. Draw the
perpendicular bisectors using two different
methods. Measure the two parts of each
bisected line segment. Record each set of
measurements
A: For line segment "a)" I used the compass method, my bisector was at 3.6cm, my total length was around 7cm
For line segment "b)" I used the paper folding method, my total length was 8cm and the bisector was at 4cm

9. Q: A support must be placed under the pool
table at its centre. Make a sketch of the
pool table. Draw the position of the
perpendicular support. Label the support
and label the measures of the table lengths
on each side of the support.
A: The perpendicular bisector is at 117 cm.

10. Q: You draw a perpendicular bisector of
a 30-cm line segment. You then draw
a perpendicular bisector of one of the
bisected line segments
A:
a) the shortest length was 7.5cm
b) the shortest line segment compares to the original line as 1/4 of the entire length.

For our home work,
we had to do some problems;

1. Q. Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 ÷ 2. She claims the
answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.
1. A. I do not agree. Because if the question is 1.7+6÷2, you would have to divide first, heres how it would look if you did; 1.7 + 6 ÷ 2 =
1.7 + 4 =
5.7 =

2. Q. Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value
possible. What problem solving strategy did you use?
(3 × 2.8) + 6.4 ÷ 4. I used order of operations to solve the problem.
2. A. Red= Answer

3. Q. Create a problem that could be solved using the following
expression.
2.5 + 1.25 + 5 × 1.6
3. A. How much money will I need if I need to buy an Apple pie[$2.5], Bottle of coke[$1.25], and 5 chocolate bars[$1.6 ea.]?
