Math: Exam Review

A spread sheet organizes date in columns and rows.

Know the ratio of circumference to diameter of any circle is always the same.

Circumference divided by diameter is pi, 3.14

Circle Formulas

c = π d
c = 2 π r
d = 2r
A = π r²

Are is the measure of space, a two dimensional shape covers

Sectors of circle graphs are made from central angles.

If the sector covers 25% of the graph the central angle is 25% of 360° which is 90° (0.25 x 360)

Integers
negative numbers represent values below zero and positive numbers represent values above zero.

eg. above and below ground or sea level

1+ (-2) = (-1) is an addition statement

3 - (-1) = 4 is an subtraction statement

~**~**~**~ Next Slide~

Opposite integers have the same numeral but a different sign e.g 3 and (-3)

Know what a
(+) + (+) =
(-) + (-) =
(+) + (-) =
(-) + (+) =
(+) - (+) =
(-) - (-) =
(+) - (-) =
(-) - (+) =

Practice with different numerals in each situation

Math: Exam Review p.2

Write an addition statement for the following diagram

5 + (-12) + 4 = (-3)

Variable is an unknown number

expressions contains variables, operations. and numbers, in any combination.
(not an equal sign)

Practice finding the pattern
eg. 24, 21, 18, 15. . .
and write equations for the patterns
e.g 27-3n

~**~**~**~ Next Slide~

Plot ordered pairs and determine whether or not they make a pattern

Determine the linear relation (equation) from a graph or table of values

Y= 2x

~**~**~**~ Next Slide~

Mean - add up all values divided by how many values three are.

Median - the middle number in a set of ordered values, might be the mean of 2 middle values.

Mode - the value that shows up the most.

Range - positive difference between largest and smallest values

Outlier - values that are too big or too small compared to the other values. (Big one take away the little one)

~**~**~**~ Next Slide~

Write expressions or equations when given pictures
eg.

Create diagrams or pictures when given the expression of equation.

Expression:
3x - 4

Equation:
2y + 3 = 15

Textbook (7-9)

7. What is the area of each parallelogram?

a)

b x h

5 cm x 11 cm
cm=
55 cm

b) b= 7cm, h= 9 cm

b x h
7 cm x 9 cm=
63 cm

c) The height is 6.2 m and the base is 3 m

b x h
6.2 m x 3 m=

18.6
m

8. Determine the area of each parallelogram.

a)

b x h
9m x 3m=
27m

b) b= 9.2 mm, h= 12.3 mm

b x h
9.2 mm x 12.3 mm=
113.16

c) The base is 4.5 cm and the height is twice the base

4.5 cm (divided by) 2 = 2.25 cm
b x h
4.5 cm x 2.25 cm=
10.125 cm

9. Workers are putting new flooring in the community centre. A section og the floor is going to have a parallelogram -shaped design. There are enough floor tiles to cover an area of 12m
². The base will be 3m. What can the height of the design be?

3x 4= 12
12m

Homework :
1.
Annie has asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 ÷ 2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.

No, because:
1.7 + 6 ÷ 2 =
1.7 + 3 =
4.7

2.Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem strategy did you use?

( 3 x 2.8 ) + ( 6.4 ÷ 4 ) = 10

3. Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression.
( 4
÷ 2 ) + ( 6.7 x 2 ) = 15.4

Here is a quick game.
